Experiment RIPlink with the Evaluation Package

You have read enough about RIPlink, and want to see it working?
You want to understand how RIPlink can help you in your new product and solution design?

An evaluation package is made available on this website, specially designed to offer a practical understanding of RIPlink and the RSP protocol.

The evaluation package objectives

The evaluation package designed by Wavecom allows you to work in various configuration, depending on your target environment:
  • Config1: a fully PC based (Windows and Linux) set up: a RIPlink Gateway and several RIPlink Devices running on the PC are communicating using RSP Protocol. IP Applications use RIPlink Devices as a TCP/IP access point, and connect to "external" IP applications (running on the PC or on the Internet accessible from the PC).
  • Config2: the RSP Gateway is running on a Wavecom Wireless-CPU (acting as GPRS Gateway), while the Gateway Adapter and RSP Clients are same as 'Config1', i.e. simulated on the PC connected over a serial link.
  • Config3: the RSP Gateway is running on the PC as in 'Config1', while Gateway Adapter and RSP Clients are running on dedicated hardware, typically some ZigBee, PLC, or other non-IP network processors. For this configuration, you will need extra software, either developed by your own or obtained from RIPlink Adopters.
  • Config4: this is a combination of 'Config2' and 'Config3' where no more PC is needed but everything runs on a target platform.

More information are provided below on each individual configuration settings.

Download the evaluation package

You can download the Evaluation Package. You need to be a registered user, and will be requested to read and accepted the Evaluation Package License prior downloading.

Demo - Config1 details

The drawings below summarizes the various elements provided in the demo config1.
On the left, the RIPlink Reference Architecture is provided as a reminder. On the right, the various elements of the evaluation package are shown.
The demo is composed of following elements:
  • RIPlink Gateway software components
    • rsp_gw: implements RSP Gateway features
    • gw_adapter: implements Gateway Adapter feature
  • Demo IP application for event management ("named M2M-SA")
    • m2msal: a TCP server application for events monitoring
    • switcherx: TCP clients, sending randomly, as events, their 8-states register status.
    • swatcher: a TCP client displaying the 3 switchers 8-state registers.
The demo also allows to send raw data to the switchers that implement a TCP listerner and a function. Raw data can be sent (and looped back data visualized) using PuTTY software.
The communication between the IP application and rsp_gw is done using the PC standard IP stack.
The communication between gw_adapter and switcher, and between rsp_gw and gw_adapter is done as a stream interface on local TCP sockets.
The demo will run simply by executing Linux runeval script or Windows runeval.bat.

You can also read the README file attached to the demo Evaluation Package to have more details on the feature and configuration of each executable.

Demo - Config2 details

The drawings below summarizes the various elements provided in the demo config2.
On the left, the RIPlink Reference Architecture is provided as a reminder. On the right, the various elements of the demo are shown.
The demo is composed of same elements as config1 demo, but mapped on different platforms:
  • RIPlink Gateway software components
    • RSP Gateway is implemented on Wavecom Wireless-CPU(R)
    • gw_adapter runs on PC
  • Demo IP application for event management ("named M2M-SA")
    • M2M-SA server runs on Wavecom Wireless-CPU(R)
    • switcherx runs on PC
    • swatcher can run on a separate on same PC, and is connected either directly to Wavecom W-CPU or through GPRS network
The demo also allows to send raw data to the switchers that implement a TCP listerner and a function. Raw data can be sent (and looped back data visualized) using PuTTY software on the PC.
The communication between the IP application and rsp_gw is done using PPP or GPRS network.
The communication between gw_adapter and switcher is done as a stream interface on local TCP sockets
The communication between RSP Gateway and gw_adapter is done using a serial interface. A serial to TCP software is running on the PC.

Only the PC software components are available today in the Evaluation Package. Contact us if you want to have Wavecom software.

Demo - Config3 details

The drawings below summarizes the various elements provided in the demo config3.
On the left, the RIPlink Reference Architecture is provided as a reminder. On the right, the various elements of the demo are shown.
The demo is composed of same elements as config1 demo, but mapped on different platforms:
  • RIPlink Gateway software components
    • RSP Gateway runs on PC
    • gw_adapter runs on a ZigBee platform
  • Demo IP application for event management ("named M2M-SA")
    • M2M-SA server runs on PC
    • switcherx runs on ZigBee device
    • swatcher runs on PC
The demo also allows to send raw data to the ZigBee device that implements a TCP listerner and forward it to a serial link for example to be monitored on an hyperterminal. Raw data can be sent using PuTTY software on the PC.
The communication between the IP application and rsp_gw is done using standard IP stack of the PC.
The communication between gw_adapter and switcher is done over ZigBee using RIPlink profile for ZigBee.
The communication between the RSP Gateway running on the ZigBee platform and gw_adapter on the PC can be done using a serial interface. A serial to TCP software is running on the PC.

Only the PC software components are available today in the Evaluation Package. Contact us if you want to have ZigBee software.
